The Kentucky Child Care Provider Information assists individuals to open up their childcare facility with the help of the Department for Community Based Services. The program provides information and resources to people to better understand the policies and laws of the state before setting up a childcare business in Kentucky.
The Licensed Child Care Centers Type I and Type II: In type 1 child care, you can set up a facility that provides child care services to more than 13 children in a residential setting four or more children in a non-residential setting. Type II childcare provides primary residential care where 7-12 children can reside and are given full-time services.
The other one is the Certified Family Child Care where care is given to children at childcare providers’ own homes. In this type of childcare service, care can be given to only four related children and no more than 10 unrelated children. The provider cannot give more than 10 hours of services in a day.
The third one is the Registered Early Childhood Professional where the caregiver is a family member, relative, or a friend and provides childcare services at their residence. In this type of childcare, care can be given to only six related children (siblings) and no more than 3 unrelated children
Every childcare provider is bound to follow certain rules. The care centers have to ensure children’s safety and main health standards. There is a Standard of Practice document on the Cabinet for Health and Family Services website which is developed by the Division of Child Care to help providers understand the caregiver’s rules in the state of Kentucky.
The type I and II providers along with certified family childcare homes have a rating scale to measure their business quality and how well they are performing. It is known as Kentucky All STARS. This rating technique helps early learning programs by providing support and improvements. It also measures how well a care center is doing. All the Childcare providers are rated on the ALL-STARS scale of 1 to 5.
The Child Care Assistance Program is another childcare program where parents are provided financial assistance to pay for their children’s childcare. The parent must be working or attending a college/university to be eligible for the program. The Division of Child Care in the state of Kentucky takes all responsibility for providing financial and non-financial child assistance to parents. The Division of Family Support also helps eligible providers and clients to apply for the program.

If you want to get a child care Type I, II license, you can set up a Getting Started meeting however it is not mandatory to open your child care business in the state of Kentucky.
