The Michigan Children’s Special Health Care Services provides medical assistance to children between the age of 1 to 21 years. The program is administered by the Department of Health and Human Services in the state of Michigan. The program may also include adults who are over the age of 21 years and have certain disorders like bloodletting or cystic fibrosis.

It should be kept in mind that the program determines the participant’s eligibility based on their medical conditions and not their household income. The eligible participants are free to use the program services alone or along with other healthcare insurance programs like the Medicaid or Medicare program.

The aim of the Michigan Children’s Special Healthcare Services is to help children and young adults with special needs live a better and happy life by providing the necessary medical services to them. The program works towards improving the quality of life for these people by incorporating the modern and up-to-date system care by the CSHCS program.

The program ensures that these special needs individuals do not face any hurdles in achieving their life goals due to their disability or special medical needs. The CSHCS program creates a close bond between the medical professionals and parents of children with special needs so that everyone is a part of the child’s medical journey. The CSHCS program is a family and community-oriented program that considers the cultural and other components while delivering its services and support resources to the eligible individuals.

The program provides various services to eligible candidates including, referrals services and health insurance coverages to individuals based on their medical needs. The program customizes its services for every individual according to their medical condition and requirements. The program also helps the primary child’s caretaker through their family-centered services.

The caretaker is given information and advice on how to act and support the patient.

Besides that, the program provides regular check-ups at home through its community-based services and the program also provides special attention to the cultural component of the patients and keeps that in mind while providing its services. The CSHCS program act as a bring and provide coordinating services between different providers and health care agencies to ensure a smooth flow of services.

To be eligible for the Michigan Children’s Special Health Care Services program. You need to be up to 21 years of age and have a valid U.S citizen or legal alien. Families with any income limits can apply as long as the medical conditions and other eligibility criteria are fulfilled.

The CSHCS program has a registration fee but, if you are the recipient of the Medicaid or MIChild program, live in a foster home, or have a legal guardian then your fee is waived. The fee varies from family to family and is usually determined using a sliding scale that considers the factors like, household size and family income. For clients who have to pay the fee, they can do that online using credit cards or via e-check. You can learn more about this by visiting the CSHCS office.

It is important to first check with your health plan laid out by your doctor, to see if you require a referral. Sometimes, to avail of certain services the healthcare provider might ask for referrals. If your healthcare insurance company does not approve of certain medical services then the CSHCS program is unable to pay for those services hence, it is essential to approve all services from your insurance providers. Your healthcare insurance provider should also be aware of your private healthcare insurances including Medicaid and others. Usually, all the medical services are billed on other insurances that you might have by your provider before billing it to CSHCS.

There are also chances of being reimbursed for services like transportation, lodging in hospital, and services provided by out of areas services medical providers. Similarly, the CSHCS program also provides van lift services, wheelchair, therapeutic tricycles for needy patients. To learn if you qualify for these services kindly check with your local CSHCS program.
