Head Start is the longest and most successful running, national school readiness program of the United States of America. This program is based on family focused, community based and child centered comprehensive activities. Head Start aims to provide a comprehensive pool of health, education, nutrition, mental health, and parent engagement opportunities for low income families, social services for people with special needs and vulnerable children and their families.

Several Head Start programs provide Early Head Start services, which is responsible for serving toddlers, infants, pregnant women and their families with incomes way below the Federal poverty level.

Ohio Head Start

Ohio Head Start is a Federal program which is promoting the school inclination of children from birth till the age of five. These children are from low-income families and this program is designed to enhance their social, emotional and cognitive development. The program is administered by (ACF) Administration for Children and Families.

This program is look after by the Ohio Head Start Association also known as OHSAI. This platform serves as a voice of Ohio’s Head Start staff, grantees and families. OHSAI is responsible for keeping the Head Start community informed, it maintains partnerships at the federal and state level. OHSAI takes actions on the issues affecting the low-income families and children.

Ohio Head Start provides a culture based on learning to support children’s growth in certain areas such as literacy, language, emotional and social development. It also emphasizes the role and responsibilities of parents as they are said to be their child’s first and the most important trainer. Ohio Head Start has helped people in building relationships with families and community as family well-being plays a crucial role in most of the areas based on community development.

They provide high quality services to the families and children who are weak and vulnerable. Due to this a positive change is incorporated in their early childhood. These services are provided at the state, national and local levels.

Are You Eligible?

People eligible for Ohio Head Start Program

    • Children from birth to the age of five belonging to low-income families as defined by poverty guidelines
    • Children of families receiving assistance
    • Homeless Children
    • Children in foster care
    • Pregnant Women are also eligible for Early Head Start

All of them are eligible for Early Head Start services no matter whatever the household income is

  • Must follow the annual household income amount stated below

In order to be a part of Ohio Head Start, an individual must have an annual household income (exclusive of taxes) of the following amounts:

For households with more than eight people, add $5,140 per additional person. Always check with the appropriate managing agency to ensure the most accurate guidelines.

 

The Head Start program, sometimes also enrolls up to 10% of children belonging to families that have their household incomes above the stated poverty guidelines. This is because the program, at times also serves an additional 35% children belonging to families with household incomes above the poverty guidelines.$14,580
