The reason for the creation of adult protective services was to investigate about the adult reports which are received in the Indiana state. These services protect the adult which are in trouble and need help to secure them from any danger. The hard time on the adults Could be in any shape. They could be a victim of abuse and exploitation these adult protective services secure them by responding to their reports.

APS field operators work within the whole Indiana state. Out of the county prosecutor’s offices, these operators work. If the APS unit receives a report that an adult is in danger and they found that the reporter is 18 years old or higher than this age they will take action to secure that individual from the danger of the trouble where he was struck in. First of all, they will investigate the report themselves or by the other law enforcement agencies to verify rather the case is genuine or not if they found that the case is real and they could proceed than they will take action to secure the individual without any further delay.

Method of filing a report

Indiana is a state where filing a report is compulsory for further proceedings by the law enforcement agencies. It means if an individual is feeling insecure or he is in danger he should file a report for his insecurity in the APS unit or other law enforcement units. The individual who has submitted the report doesn’t need to be worried about his privacy because all the reports are kept confidential and secure under these units and the individual bio and information are not shared by any other person. So, that the individual who files the report faces no hurdle by any other person.

APS is not an emergency service it means if someone is in danger and he needs help in an emergency the APS does not respond immediately like 911 service but it will take its time in studying the report and investigating it and then if they found the report eligible to take action they will come for the help. So it’s important to remember that in an emergency don’t contact APS rather than it dials 911 for immediate help. By calling at the APS field office the complainer can file he complain or he can also file the complaint by calling the state hotline directly. After a report is submitted

When the report is submitted by the individual it is then transferred to the local director of the APS unit. Whose responsibility is to decide what steps he has to take after reading the report? Your report will remain confidential during this whole procedure unless a court order came from the court to disclose your name or by the consent of all the parties and people are which are mentioned in the report. The APS has the right to investigate you by an investigator to get more information if they conduct an investigation. But it does not the APS will share with you their current going status of the investigation or any other information that they have.

The APS works with the will of the adult if he doesn’t want to take their services than APS will keep no right to force him for having their services because the adult is free to make his own decisions which he thinks is better for him.

Who are endangered adults?

For being an endangered adult in Indiana there are 3 aspects and these are as followings:

The minimum age of the individual should be 18 years of age.
If the individual is mentally ill or is disabled, excessive drugs user or any other mental incapacity than he will be considered as an endangered adult.
As a result of neglect and battery if the individual is threatened or harmed.

Definitions of abuse, neglect, and exploitation in Indiana

Neglect: The person who cares about the endangered adult is unable to provide food, clothing, and shelter.

Abuse: If a person touches another person in a rude way it doesn’t not matters he touches him intentionally or unintentionally it means he abuses him.

Exploitation: A person who knowingly or intentionally exerts unauthorized use of personal services or the property of 18 years of age individual or higher. For the profit of himself or the profit of another person is called exploitation.
