Program Overview

Massachusetts the Medical Use of Marijuana Program is a state-run program. However, it deals with registering Marijuana Dispensaries (RMD), RMD agents, eligible patients, and caregivers. The program is administered by the Cannabis Control Commission in the state of Massachusetts. It works towards making laws for the effective and safe use of marijuana for medical purposes and use by adults.

Age Limit and Dosage

In Massachusetts State, the use of marijuana is legal in adults above the age of 21. However, one cannot use it in public, and certain laws need to be kept in mind while using marijuana. An individual can only use 1 oz of marijuana at home and keep only 1 oz with you. An adult can only grow 6 plants of marijuana at home (12 plants for two adults or more). Special precautions should be taken to keep marijuana locked up and away from children. It should not be kept in open containers for example alcohol. You should not drive if you have recently consumed marijuana. The best option is to take a bus or metro. Every town and city has laws about consuming marijuana, so it is best to keep updating yourself with any changes in your area.

It is extremely important to research using marijuana. It is a very powerful drug that contains Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). However, if not used in small dosages or according to the recommendation of your healthcare provider, it can have seriously damaging effects. Marijuana can be used in different ways and that is why it is essential to know to use marijuana that will benefit you. Too much use of marijuana is harmful. 

Combining Marijuana and Alcohol

Using marijuana and alcohol can have severe harmful effects and can affect you and the people around you. It can cause nausea, impairment, hallucinations, and paranoia. While smoking marijuana, you should first observe your environment. Furthermore, you should not be smoking in front of kids, pregnant women, people with breathing problems, and old people. If keeping marijuana at home, keep it away from children or pets who can mistake it for candy or other edible products. Furthermore, label the product and keep it in the package, high cabinets out of the reach of children.

Requirements

To register for the Medical Use of Marijuana Program you need to first get certified. You will have to ask your medical doctor about applying for the Medical Use of Marijuana Program. If the doctor believes that you have a medical need, you will receive the certification after which you can apply for the program. Afterward, you will receive a PIN from your medical provider to register for the program.

Certain documentation is necessary to apply for the Medical Use of Marijuana Program Online System. Including a PIN, your identification card, and a recently taken photograph of yourself. Remember that, the PIN expires each year, and you will be required to renew it to be able to continue using the program’s benefits. To renew your card, you will need your ID. You can opt for a caregiver if you want assistance with using marijuana. The caregiver will help you use it in a controlled manner. Each patient can only name up to 2 caregivers to assist them with using marijuana for medical purposes. You should also check to see if the caregivers are already assisting another patient or not. To register for the Medical Use of Marijuana Program or to renew your program’s benefits visit the MMJ Online System. If you are registering as a patient there is a $10 fee for it. The program is renewed every year.
