Prevention and Protection Services: The Kansas Family Preservation Services is administered by the Department of Children and Families and works towards the well-being of the children by strengthening the family and helping them create a strong bond. The program ensures that children do not have to move to foster care.
There are two components of the Kansas Family Preservation Services:
Intensive In-Home Family Preservation Services
In this component the family is given an experienced practitioner who tries to strengthen the family bond by assessing their needs. The person tries to mitigate any family feud and other problems that might cause the parents to separate and leaving the children at the risk of being sent away to foster care. The duration of this service is about six weeks.
Short-Term Family Preservation Case Management Services
In this component, the family is assigned a Family Support Worker along with a Case Manager who tries to analyze the family situation and look for any existing safety risks for the kids. If any risks are present, they then work towards mitigating those risks by providing the required support to the family. The program is six weeks long.
