The director-general of World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom, declares that WHO has seized the initiative of mpox public health emergency. It was decided after the seeing the dearth of such cases around.

Moreover, the emergency went on for 10 months on end and the results have been impeccable. WHO also stated all the necessary information along with results about the virus. mpox outbreak was severe and was seen in more than 1000 countries, resulting in severe repercussions.  In addition, the breakout was in July 2022.

Anyhow, the deteriorating cases came through as the pleasant news and while announcing, Tedros Adhanom said;

   “The end of the emergency is after seeing the falling cases worldwide.”

Along with the statement, he also hinted at mpox virus still being present in some areas, however, in small ratio though. He also said;

‘However, with Covid-19, that does not mean that the work is over…”

Future Strategy 

While talking about the future, Nicola Low (Vice President WHO) emphasized on a long-term strategy and they can combat and eradicate the existence of mpox from is very roots. Talking the results, it is pertinent to mention that in the last 3 months, around 90% less cases have been registered. So, the future looks hopeful.

Back in July 2022, the total breakout number was 87,000 which has reduced drastically. The fear of mpox virus existence in the African Countries is still a question mark, however, WHO is continuing to make a robust presence in the longer term.
