The Department of Human Services administers the Maryland Social Services to Adults (SSTA) program and provides support to adults in the state to be independent and be self-sufficient. The program is available for vulnerable adults who are living in an abusive household and are being maltreated. The program works towards building strong familial relationships and develop a supportive community that encourages each other rather than separating families. The main objective of the Maryland the Social Services to Adults (SSTA) program is to help vulnerable adults strengthening their self-maintenance while living in the same community. The program analyzes the situation of these adults and comes up with different remedies to help ease their pain and get them out of challenging experiences they are suffering in their lives. The SSTA program in the state of Maryland the Social Services to Adults (SSTA) program makes sure that rather than increase institutionalization the program aims towards promoting departmental services and care to the adults in the state of Maryland.

The SSTA program’s services are provided to people who are adults and have some form of disability that makes it difficult for them to perform daily life activities. The program also supports adults who are 65 years of age or more. For adults who are under the age of 65 years and have some form of disability are eligible to apply for the SSTA program only if their total household income is 80% less than the State median income of Maryland.

Certain documentation and proofs are required at the time of applying for the Social Services to Adults (SSTA) program. The applicant needs to provide proof of their residency in the state of Maryland as well as their identification card that shows their age (to prove that the applicant is legally an adult). The applicants are also required to show their medical certificates that prove their disability if that is applicable.

The different types of services available to the participants of the Social Services to Adults (SSTA) program include Referral and Information services where the participants are provided information about the program through another agency. The program staff realizes that the participants’ needs can be fulfilled through a different agency so they refer them to that agency.

The program also provides respite care services to bring relief to the adults temporarily by providing at-home or daycare services to adults as well as healthy and nutritional meals. It also helps the adults become a part of a community by facilitating them through their transition from hospital to nursing care, by providing recreational services to adults and helping with laundry, making meals, and other homemaking services.

The program also provides crisis intervention services which are provided to adults who have to go through a very different and life-changing situation in their life. The crisis assistance goes up to 60 days where the participant is given comprehensive support and guidance to help ease their pain during the time of crisis. The other services provided by the Social Services to Adults (SSTA) program include case management services that are basic services that are provided to any individual who trying to be stable in life and live an independent and self-sufficient life in their community. Besides that, the service also includes helping adults get institutional care whenever required.

A social worker is assigned to each adult through the Social Services to Adults (SSTA) program who perform a thorough assessment of their wants and needs and design a personalized service plan that is suits the adult’s needs and other requirements.
